In These times [Gaza] | April 2025

Titled “Tareeq Al Awda” or “The Road Back” – "Typographically illustrating the word Gaza in mirrored forms—one whole, one incomplete—symbolizing the Gazans' hope of return while reflecting on ongoing genocide, destruction, loss, and the uncertain future of their land."

"Featuring phrases from Nizar Qabbani’s ‘Tareeq Wahed’, explaining one route only back to Palestine, with the sharp red triangle of the Palestinian flag—a forbidden form/a forbidden color—intersects with an aerial image of displaced Gazans returning home, echoing the enduring connection from the river to the sea." “To Palestine” – extracted from the poem by Qabbani, that continues in the next spread – “To Palestine, take me with you”. The illustration portrays the destroyed land as it meets the fine line of the sea and its smooth, continuous flow with hope.

"To Palestine, take me with you"—a phrase from Qabbani’s poem—echoes the longing for a land both near and distant, raising questions about the future beyond the ceasefire and the end of genocide. The layout draws inspiration from a page in the Holy Quran that was gifted in 1940 from Jaffa city to Gaza, as shared by Jehad Abu Salim.

“The Return” – The illustration depicts the scene on January 27, 2025, of the Return of Gazans back home along a strip that divides the devastated land on one side from the flowing sea on the other.
